Hey guys,

After much thought and after consulting the forum, I plan to move Sobaka off of Royal Canin, and onto Nature's Variety Instinct grain free kibble. Which leads to the following question:

After reading some posts and due to the warnings on the bags, how long might I expect diarrhea to ensue from the switch.

Thanks so much for your help.

One hopes a long and slow transition will minimize any problems. My dogs always got soft stool at about 50/50 but it was never diarrhea. Feed 1 part new to 4 parts old for a couple days, then 1/3, 1/2, 1/1, 2/1, 3/1 and they will be fine. Remember to compare how many calories you feed of the RC to the number of calories in the new food. A quick check shows some NV have 490 kcal per cup while some RC have only 340 kcal per cup. Over feeding can make for a happy plump dog or one with loose stool.
