Elana made a great note on her training thread that my Strauss is ring wise, something I had never considered. So, how do you battle the ring wise dog (excluding matches)?

I've had a couple ideas, but was hoping others would weigh in.

Matches and run throughs. It's the only time (under certain conditions) where I'll let someone else correct my dog. For example, on the stays, if they break and the 'steward or the judge' corrects them hopefully, they'll think twice before breaking.

I thought of setting up ring gates in various places and having various "judges" and running things like a trial...my own personal matches if you will.

Matches are too few and far between for me to rely on those to fix this issue.

In all honesty, I don't think I'm qualified to answer since I haven't yet had to deal with a ringwise dog.

BUT, join the yahoo frontandfinish and dogobedience lists and ask away. We have some excellent people who will be able to help you. There are people there who have dealt with ringwise dogs AND worked them out of it.

I have heard of a couple of people who just had to take the NQ and get their dogs in the ring. It was worth it, though, the dog never blew them off again. :)
