Retrofitting my wheels in an attempt to make them more dog friendly. Extra large hamster water bottle to keep the pup hydrated. Dog seat cover to keep the original seat cover clean. And a dog seat belt, if i ever get pulled over for speeding hopefully the officer is a dog lover, he/she sees this setup they'll tear that ticket up fast. Keep your eyes open in the review arena, will eventually post some in depth reviews of these items...

i'm thinking the main 3 dog items are pretty self-explanatory, not sure what your "why" is specifically referring to...?
Any of it. All of it. I'd be more worried about fido launching out the windshield or getting a hamster water nozzle through it's face during an accident. Other than safety concerns the whole operation seems pointless and a lot of work for nothing. I take the dogs on road trips, they go in a crate, they go in the back, they get water when we stop to pee. It's the safe way to do things.
Some say tomato, some say potato, to each its own...
i try not to worry about everything that could happen but i rather take my chances with my dog in the front seat where i have instant access to it as opposed to stowed away in a cage in the back of my wheels. Its obvious some folks ain't never seen how fast a vehicle is engulfed in flames once its caught on fire. And if you don't like seeing my dog in the front seat, you're gonna love my mc setup...
Ain't never seen a vehicle engulfed in flames where the blaze actually started in the rear.

Therefore, seems a cage in the back would be the best and safest place to stow .. it.

And buy a fire extinguisher. Just to ease that worried mind.
Fire extinguisher doen't help much if i'm pinned behind the wheel. But i'd at least be able to reach over and toss the dog out the window to semi safety. Of course then it be dealing with roadway traffic but that's better than the alternative...
Impact injuries are vastly more common than burn injuries in vehicle accidents.
i appreciate how most are seriously pointing the many daily dangers of the living. Believe me or not when i say i do weigh my options and do what i think is best and anyone who disagrees with me, that's your opinion. With that said, i didn't start this thread to debate anyone on safety. Show off your personal setup or please start your own safety thread. Currently trying to get this weekends gear together, haven't got the time nor the will to convince anyone to see things differently than they already do. Thanks for your cooperation, and keep your eyes open for my "labor day 2021 gateway" post...

Last but not least, did i mention i'm an eggcellent driver...?
That rig, particularly the hangar hook and the bottle nozzle, looks like an accident waiting to happen. If there's a passenger airbag it's even more dangerous.
Ditched the hanger/bottle idea for now. The hanger rig was only a prototype to see if the bottle would workout. Totally blocks access to the glove box and Bosco isn't using it anyway. For now its back to using bowled water during stops. My jeep doesn't get the best gas mileage, so water breaks will be frequent...

Here is my set up. Water bowl carrier is fixed to the bars of the crate door and can easily be removed. It is always in there though empty when traveling over non interstate roads because it will slop.
The crate is made by Zinger and is lockable.

Note the shovel handle... that is fir anyone who messes with my track. I can bury the bodies .. 😂

Impressive cage setups. Most of our roadtrips include other baggage so caging it isn't really feasible...
