I just asked at the vet's office today when we can switch our Pom to adult food. She will be seven months this week. They said we can start switching any time. Our other dog is on special dog food so so much for using the same stuff.

I am curious though. Is puppy food more fattening? Being a Pom we have to be careful she doesn't gain too much weight. She is ten pounds on our scale but is a taller Pom. The vet originally said she would be around this weight so I am hoping she is finished growing.

Any recommendations. The only one they told me not to get is something like Roy. The receptionist likes Science Diet but I am open to suggestions now.

I would not recommend Science Diet. Some that have worked for Bailey are Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance and Wellness.

Does Petco sell these? I have never heard of most of them? Are they low calorie?

I believe Petco sells Wellness and Natural Balance. Both of these have healthy weight formulas. Wellness CORE has a reduced fat version and is also grain free. Apparently Natural Balance now gets it's duck from abroad so you may want to steer clear of their duck formulas. They may sell Innova and their grain free version, EVO, which also come in reduced fat formulas. I'm not sure if Petco sells any of the others.

I would stay far, far away from Science Diet. If you're trying to keep your Pom's weight down then I would go ahead and switch to adult food. For ones from Petco that I would recommend- Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Halo, Pinnacle and Natural Balance.

We went to Petsmart and could not find a couple of the ones I wanted. Then went to Petco and bought the Wellness Core. I am hoping it isn't a diet food. I just mainly wanted a low cal so she doesn't get fat. Right choice?

Wellness CORE is a very nice choice. It is not a diet food. Good luck and I hope she likes it!

We already started putting it in her regular Purina Puppy food. When Purina is gone, that is it.

I would suggest solid gold "Just a Wee Bit" dog food, made for small breeds. Solid gold is one of the oldest holistic food out there and is pretty much used amongst some of the more serious dog show dogs.

I think I saw Solid Gold there but I don't know why I didn't buy it.
