I read this entire thread and I have to say I find it completely unbelievable.
Here is the first rule when working with dogs and cats:
1.) NEVER EVER EVER hit the dog or cat.
Here is the second rule when working with dogs and cats:
2.) If the dog or cat misbehaves and you want to hit him, refer to rule #1
I get the feeling reading this post that, assuming the OP is for real (and if you are, I apologize but we get some trolls here at times) that reading the stickies and learning about dogs b4 attempting to train one may be beyond his comprehension.
This is not intended as an insult but it just sounds like there is a disconnect....
Well, whatever... if you keep the dog, change your at home schedule to get the dog out in the morning and at night a couple of times. This means getting up an hour earlier in the morning and walking the dog for 1/2 hour minimum and at night it means walking the dog when you get home for an hour minimum and again later in the evening before you go to bed.
As to the pee and poop thing I can only say that hitting a dog for going bathroom where you don't want him to doesn't teach the dog anything except that you are dangerous and it is dangerous to pee or poop with you present.
I will never understand anyone who gets a dog and then finds out they have no place for the dog to go to the bathroom... and the dog ends up peeing and pooping in the house..
Not only could I not live like this but if you think about it, this sort of thing is why land lords do not allow dogs in apartments and this is an apartment....
I can only shake my head...
