Hello all,
I have a rat/fox terrier mix that is really shedding bad. I would think in south texas in the middle of this heat that she might shed a bit-- but the fur seems to be coming off in large amounts.
Now she does have allergies---
would this be a factor with this 5 year old dog ?

is there a shampoo or pill that is effective in staunching this progression of hair shedding ?

thanks
all,

c

Is she shedding so badly that she has bald spots? If so then it could be anything from parasites to malnutrition. On the other hand it could be perfectly normal seeing how you live in south Texas. Does her coat appear normal and healthy aside from the shedding?

Some more questions for you. Have you switched food in the last 6 months? Has anything changed lately? Like her routine, housing, new member in the house, your work schedule changed? Has her behavior changed lately? Do you notice anything else, even if you don't think it's connected? When was the last time she was at the vet? Do you have her on a flea control med? There are a lot of things that could cause excessive shedding, if that's what it is.
If you think it's more than just shedding you should take her to the vet to have a good checkup and tell the vet about your concerns.

She has a very shiny and healthy coat, aside from the shedding.

She's been on the same food and routine schedule and she is on a flea control medicine. The only thing different that I can think of is when I take her out to her grandparents house, doggie parks, and or just recent a day trip to a park. I will take her to her vet.

Thanks,
m
