Questions about getting another dog

Hey guys,

I already have a 4 month old puppy. He's something like a beagle and a golden retriever mix. Anyway, I really wasn't thinking of getting another dog until I saw "Boots" on Petfinder. He is beautiful and I feel the need to get him even though getting a second dog is probably not the best idea.

Here is "Boots." He is 4 months old and listed as a Boxer mix, and I wanted to see what you guys thought. Does he look like mostly a boxer? What else could be mixed in. His coat is really gorgeous. Do a lot of Boxers have that short brindle coat? Also, how would two male, neutered puppies get along with each other. Is a female a better way to go?

Hmmm...I also thought about getting another puppy when Bella was around the age of your dog but I kind of talked myself out of it. I am far from an expert but I have heard that it is better to wait until your dog is older around 1 1/2 / 2 years old and fully trained. That way the new pup will learn by example and it makes the training easier.

It also probably depends on the dog you have now. How well trained is he and do you think he will appreciate having another pup around? You should have them meet first and see how they get along before you just go ahead and bring him home, then you discover they are not a good match...
looks like he might have some pit bull? The community that I live in has ALOT of pit bull dogs/mix- not considering any behavioral issues, getting another dog now will be a good playmate for you first dog. Our first set- over 16 years ago- were less than a year apart and they got along great- one female, one male. Currently our 11 year old male gets along pretty good with our 1 year old male puppy- we have always had our dogs spayed/neutered at a young age. Hope this helps!
