Purebred or not?

This is our new puppy and he's an absolute sweetheart.
Sombody said to me she didn't think he looked like a purebred great Dane. His heritage isn't important but I'm caught up trying to see what she's seen 🤔 He looks very Dane like to me! Can anyone else see it or is she just bananas?
He's 9weeks in this photo and was 8.5kg when we was weighed at the vet a week ago.

Good looking dog but i just don't see great dane, at least not purebread. So yes, your friend probably means well but is most likely bananas...
Haha wasn't a friend just a random. What characteristic do you think is different? I feel like I've been playing some weird game of spot the difference all day 😂 any guesses on a mix?
Did you get him from a breeder, or a rescue? If rescued, there's a pretty good chance it's a mix. If a breeder, it's probably more likely to be purebred (but there's a great difference between BYB dogs and dogs bred to meet a standard by ethical and reputable breeders).

You likely won't be able to tell for sure until the dog is older. With only the photo I would just as easily guess big Lab as Great Dane at this age! I wouldn't worry to much about what random strangers say, unless that random stranger was in fact very familiar with Great Danes.
Thanks and yes this is what I thought too! How could you possibly tell? I did get him from a registered breeder but not a big business just a family breeder and I didn't get to see mum as she had passed away.
I think it might be the lack of loose skin that made her say that lol
