Our 5 month old springer is teething and we have noticed recently that he is snapping at us sometimes. He does not make contact and he does not bite us, just when he seems frustrated (if he thinks I have treat in my hand and I am to giving it to him) he makes a snapping action towards me.

Otherwise, he is very gentle and affectionate, licks hands but no longer mouths or nips.

I just want to know if this is normal behaviour (a sign of bite inhibition as it starts to be learnt, i.e. next step he will stop snapping) or if this is a sign of a bigger problem.

Also, as he is not actually biting, how do we train him to stop? Is it a case of saying "too bad" when he snaps and stopping whatever we were doing and ignoring him for 1min?

Thanks for any advice.
