Hey everybody :). We recently acquired a 13 week old puppy. All I was told is he is a sheperd breed (black, tan white) and small. The problem we have is he is dedicated to terrorizing our 2 middle aged cats. The white cat runs away and the dominant tabby hiss's and swipes. This cannot go on much longer. I was told as a shepard breed his instinct is to "Herd" and what needs to happen here is to break that instinct. Does anybody have any clue how to break instinct? I know how to distract him from My Own shoes, pant bottoms but he's also on the other people here consistently?
Any Idea's techniques?

This is not herding, it is prey drive. One day a cat will pay with its life.

Have a leash on the dog (even inside) and redirect to toys or to focus on you using food. Make sure the cats can get away to a place where the dog cannot go (use gates). Before the dog starts to chase, get between the dog and the cat and step quickly into the dog's space and say firmly "My Cat!" and make the dog back up. Put the cats in a room separate from the dog. Get a crate for the dog so there are times the cats can safely share space.

You do need to train the dog and you may need to attend classes to learn how.
