I have a 6 week old boxer pup (i know, extremely young. please do not judge) he does great. he goes potty outside when we take him.
My question is when i catch him going inside i clap my hands loudly to get his attention and tell him no then imminently take him outside and do HUGE praises and give him lots of pets and love.
He is extremely smart and can go about 4 hours while sleeping. when he is up playing i take him about every 45-1 hour.

I guess my question is, should i be interupting him when he goes inside? i dont spank him or show any sign of being upset, just tell him no and the clapping.

Thank you for any advise.

It's not really worth it to use "no" like that. I'm also not sure it's a good idea for him to associate peeing in front of you with loud noises and surprise. You could end up with problems that way. Usually, you just make a noise like "ah-ah-ah", pick him up and take him outside so he finishes outside.

Since you did get him so young, please read the sticky on bite inhibition. That's something you'll have to teach him because his mom and litter mates won't be able to. It's called "The Bite Stops Here".

Another misconception, sorry, about knowing what "no" means. A puppy that young may understand that when you say "no" it means he should stop, but he doesn't understand why (because it's wrong). He's also too young to apply that to the very NEXT time he wants to do the same thing. He's not going to understand that if you say "no" it means to never do it again. It's just an interrupter word.

Lots of times when we humans think of "no" we think in terms of something being "wrong". Puppies don't think that way. "No" may stop him temporarily, that's it.

Luca (thats my puppy boxers name) he told me he had to poo today! i was super impressed and dont expect it to happen again, but he did let me know. we had just went outside and he pee'd and came back inside cause he showed no signs what so ever of having to poo. was sitting at my computer half watching him play half checking emails and he came over and barked at me twice so i grabed a treat and took him outside and bam! he went poo!
