My husband and I just got a new puppy (now 10 weeks) for the first time. We're still in the potty training and crate training process and will take him outside every 2-3 hours throughout the day and night. He was doing well with 1-2 pee accidents in the house a day, but was at least eliminating outside every time we took him out. Over the weekend, my husband had night shift so I was solely in charge of waking up and taking him out.

Things were going fine, however, last night I was so tired, I took him outside to pee at 4am, then put him straight in his crate. Usually, we would play with him a little to tucker him out, but I read that it was best to put him straight in the crate instead.

This morning, my husband comes home to take him outside and he is crying in his arms (never happened before). Puppy is all of a sudden lethargic and hasn't eaten or had water all day. At some point, we are outside with him and he starts crying like he's in pain more and more. We take him to the vet immediately and they tell us there's no signs of pain or anything wrong except his fecal sample came positive for alaria parasite and could be potentially why he was crying. The vet prescribed us Panacur (he just finished his panacur from the supply our breeder gave us the day before). The vet gave him fluids and said that he was acting fine and eating when given canned food.

Anyway, he still isn't eating, been sleeping all day, still lethargic, and the weirdest part is he isn't peeing outside. I take him outside and he immediately sits right under me almost clinging to me and then runs back inside the house and pees on the floor instead. We've had him for a week and a half and his behavior has changed overnight and I feel like our progress in potty training has taken a step back. Is he afraid of the outside now? Did I force the crate training too harshly last night? This sudden change in behavior has gotten me worried and I'm not sure what to do to move forward.

A lethargic puppy that is crying and not interested in eating is not a normal puppy. I would contact the vet again, and see about getting further diagnostic work done.

One thing to be concerned about is a possible blockage from ingesting something that wasn't food, since puppies explore the world with their mouths.

We gave him some pepto bismol this morning that was also supplied from the breeder because my husband noticed some bloating. He pooped fine afterwards (all before the vet visit and we mentioned this to the bet as well).

His energy has gone up a bit, but still isnt his energetic and playful self as of 7:50pm. He ate and drank a little just now. Just wants to lie down and sleep all the time though, even after sleeping all day today. It just throws me off because it's out of character for him.

Thank you for your response.

I recommend taking him back to either your vet if they do after hours call, or else an emergency clinic.

Update: as of 10pm, puppy is back to his old self and has regained his energy! I wasn't sure if I was just being an overly concern pup parent, but thank you for your advice and recommendation and will keep a look out to see if the emergency vet trip will be needed if issues continue. First time on this forum and I'm happy I joined!
