A clerc at a pet nutrition store told me that if your dog food was high in protein it should also be high in fat otherwise it would result in frequent soft stool... Never heard that one before, what do you think?

I second that!!! When my dogs were on kibble I wouldn't feed them anything less than 12-15% fat. Anything less and their coats were awful. Now that they are on a raw diet the probably get 70-80% protein and 20-30% fat overall, varies from day to day.

And remember, there are only 3 components of any food source...protein, fat, carbohydrates. So what isn't protein and fat is sugary carbs.
