how can a pet parent prevent stomach ulcer?

Why would you be needing to worry about them? If the dog is on an NSAID, then give it on a full stomach ask your vet if you can give preventative Omeprozale (sp).
Generally dogs don't normally get ulcers unless they have a medical problem like Liver disease, or on some meds.

Ulcers aren't caused by acid reflux. They're caused by H. Pylori infection. If your dog has reflux or GERD, the real risk is vomiting and concomitant damage to the esophagus and teeth.

Pepcid is a good treatment for reflux. You can also help regulate acid production by feeding your dog a snack every 4 - 6 hours. Just adjust his meals so he's not consuming extra calories.
