Hello, I have a kind of weird question. How likly is it that our male yorkie got our female boxer pregnant and the puppy/puppies are small enough that the boxer isnt even showing any weight gain? Weknow the yorkie got her atleast once, and Our boxer has been real whiny lately and her nipples havent gotten larger even after not being on heat anymore.

Yes bring her to a vet, and get an ultra sound. Of course there is always the ever present question "Why weren't the dogs kept seperate?" to prevent this whole problem in the first place.

This "nifty thing" works best after the puppies' bones have ossified (or begun to) at around 5 weeks in utero.

Jackau, we need more information before we can answer you. Yes, it *can* happen and no, it's not incredibly likely to have happened . . . but how long has it been since she was in heat? What physical symptoms does she have? Why, if these dogs are pets, are they not spayed/neutered or, if you don't want to have the surgery done, why are they allowed to be together when she is in heat?

To answer your question, you may see some "pinking up" of her rear nipples and they may get larger. In addition, she might start vomiting or refusing food at certain times of day. She won't gain any weight until late in the fourth week or into the fifth week--the puppies will probably be (roughly) of a size normally delivered by that size dam, although the size of the sire might have something to do with the puppies' ultimate size. By the sixth week, you will see the usual characteristic 'pregnant' roundness to her body.

Do yourself a favor, though, and get her to a vet. Some physical symptoms of pregnancy can be mimicked in "false pregnancy" or other, less benign, things, too.
