Potty Training!

I can't say enough about crate training. Not only for the ease of potty-training, but also to keep your pup out of harm's way. Before I got a dog of my own, I used to think that crate training was depriving the dog of something. Now that I have a 95 pound pup, I am extremely happy that he's crate trained. He goes in the crate on his own, and sometimes chooses to sleep in it, even when he has other choices.

If your pup doesn't have all its shots, then only take them out on a leash. That way you can control what the dog gets into and where it goes.

I still say you should crate train. There are a plethora of articles on the Internet about how to do it properly. Even a small dog can benefit from it.
