Hi, all. I currently have an elderly pug - he’s blind, deaf, and incontinent. I’ve had him since he was a puppy and he was a perfect trainee. Never had issues with potty training, I did agility and hurtles with him, he flew through sit, stay, roll over type tricks. I’ve been thinking of getting a puppy for about a year now, but there’s one thing holding me back. How can I possibly potty train a new puppy when my older dog is having trouble holding his bladder? With the “smell” in the house, I’m worried the puppy will just assume we go in the house now. Any ideas? Any suggestions?

Personally, I wouldn't get a puppy with a senior dog in the house. Puppies are a pain for everyone, but we forgive them 'cause they're adorable. To a senior dog, a puppy is probably not so adorable.

IMO a time comes when a puppy is too much for an older dog and merely one more thing that has to be endured. From your description your older dog has reached that time. Why not wait, and when you can, either do or have done a real deep cleaning and deodorizing of the house? Give your old boy peaceful last days and give the puppy a better start down the road.
