I'm planning on doing some gardening this weekend and figured I'd look up what plants are poisonous to dogs. Holy moly! I can't believe how many there are! I'm assuming that the tonne of plants that are listed on the many internet sites are not only the plants that could kill a dog, but plants that would just be bad for their health to ingest. Either way, I'll avoid them entirely as my puppy is only four months and even though I'm putting a barrier around the plants, I really don't think that will stop her little chompers from trying their hardest to get at my tiny garden!

I'll be training her to stay away from eating the garden, but she's still experimenting and exploring the wide world of potential chew toys and just to be on the safe side, I only want plants that if she does pull a fast one on me, won't make her sick. What plants do you guys find are the safest for a garden? I'm planning on planting some black eyed susans, and haven't seen them come up on any poisonous plants list yet.

If your pup does show interest in wanting to chew on/eat your plants, you can always buy some bitter apple spray or the hot pepper spray that they make for deer and rabbits to put on the plants. We used to use the pepper spray for the cat when he would try to eat the house plants. He doesn't do that anymore :p
