Hi All,

I have been living with my roommate now for almost a year. At first, everything was great, I really liked her dog and loved taking her dog on hikes, pet sitting, and just spending time with it. But as time passed, my roommate started slacking on caring for the dog. Eventually, my roommate would expect me to watch the dog every weekend, but already having my own pets, being in nursing school, and having a busy life it just became too much. The dog isn't properly trained and would frequently throw up, poop, and pee in the house. My roommate would only clean it up after I saw it and asked her to clean it...or she would blame it on my cats who have never made any accidents. The worst was when she only took her dog out once during a day which resulted in the dog pooping and peeing near the back door...my roommate then blamed it on my cats and watched me clean it all up...this was not something my cats have ever done and anyone that has a cat knows there is a clear difference between cat pee and dog pee. The accidents in the house and not cleaning them is only one of many problems...the dog also begs like crazy and will put her face in your food while you are eating...she also barks AT EVERYTHING...I have always had dogs and barking normally doesn't bother me but this dog's barking is without end...the whining...the shrill barking...oh my god...and my roommate literally just rewards all the bad behaviors. I have grown to despise this dog so much and I hate that I do...I know all my problems with it are because of its owner but this dog annoys me so much...what do I do? I don't want to continue hating this dog but my roommate gets so defensive when I bring up any issues. Y'all I have come home from trips to a house with dog vomit and poop all over the place and my roommate saying "oh I meant to clean that up" then asking me to clean it...I can't...

Am I overreacting? I just don't know what to do...

You know you're despising the wrong being, don't you? Anyway, I'm with LittleFrog, time to start seriously looking for another housing situation. In the meantime you need to get a lot tougher about the caring for the dog on weekends and cleaning up after it. Try that just say no thing.

Sounds like new living arrangements may definitely be in order. But before you do anything drastic, perhaps try setting up some hidden cameras so you can be 100% sure it isn't the cats...

I have taken my cats to my partner's place for a few nights and come home to the messes and a roommate who tries their best to blame it on my cats who weren't even in the house...

Eee.. Well you most definitely aren’t overreacting. That type of stuff is ANNOYING! However, you are despising the wrong being! I agree with basically everyone else in this discussion, get a new roommate!
