Alright, well I'm finally getting the chance to write a research paper of my choice, so of course I'm going to write about the truth of pitbulls, and not the media truth..

I have a pretty nice thesis, and my paper is going to include, myths, statistics, and breed history. And I will also pose and answer the question, is it the owner/humans fault or, do they contribute to the way the dog is, etc.. ?

So I need sites with reliable information, statistics, etc..

got any??

Thanks!

You can also include things I need to remember to say, and things I shouldn't say.

I did something like that for a paper for english...

I mentioned that pits were used as war dogs, were nicknamed the nanny dog, one played in The Little Rascals, and how they were bred for bull and bear baiting, along with dog fighting, working as herders, overall farm dogs, and companions. I said how they are prone to small animal aggression, but are unwaveringly loyal and gentle to humans.

EDIT: And a list of myths...

Go to breed statistics, it gives a good comparison where pitbulls rank as far as temperament vs. other breeds.

Points to ponder:
No their jaws don't lock
what other breeds are commonly mistaken for a "pitbull"
and if I think of any others I'll add to this.

For my visual I'm going to post like 15-25 pictures of dogs that look like pitbulls but aren't and have people try to play the guess the breed game to show how easily other breeds are mistaken for them.

Are you going to write a research paper or a propaganda piece? Your use to the term "media truth" implies the latter.

If you're going to write a real research paper, I would suggest you pick a topic for which you have not already determined your conclusions.

Okay, It's not a research paper, but it is at the same time.

Your supposed to basically research something you want to know more about, but your paper has to have a so what? sort of theme.

I know the basics about pitty's and that they aren't bad, but theres a lot I need to learn to actually give the paper a So what? theme.
And there's a ton I don't know about them.

We've been researching for a little while, so it's okay if I already have a conclusion to how my paper is supposed to work, we are supposed to figure out our views on our subject and find answers to questions we pose, which I've been doing for a while.

I've written real research papers, I wrote a 20 page report on what influenced charles darwin more, his beagle voyage or the scientists in his past and present...it was so much fun haha, and I learned a ton, even though I already love Darwin lol.

Hey Pepper one resource you might use is the Internet Public Library, their website is ipl.org. They have attempted to compile reputable sites from the internet under various subject headings. You may try the "Ask an IPL" librarian function and they will help you find authoritative sources.

And trust me, librarians love to help. The site also is used as a training tool for future librarians so you'll also be helping some graduate student get through a class (I know because I had to answer questions for a while). You can put in your question that you'd like arguments from both sides of the issue because while you do already have your hypothesis it is better to have a nuanced understanding of the arguments of the other side if you truly want to disprove them.

I think it would be useful if you could find some sources that aren't clearly biased to present your argument. It will give your paper more credibility. You can, of course, supplement your argument with information from traditionally biased sources, it will just weaken your argument if you rely too heavily on them. One way to sort of get around that is if you find papers and articles put out by the biased organizations, check their citations and bibliography and see if you can get your hands on those foundational articles. If the only people they are citing is themselves than you really have to question their credibility. I don't know if that helps, but I hope so.

I think you are doing a good thing Pep! I have no information but lots of support. I would like to read your final paper because I am on the fence about pittys. And don't listen to any totally negative comments...you came to right place to gather your information. Good luck. I know you'll get an A!

I believe she wrote ..."and NOT the media truth" which in my imind mplies it isn't going to be biased. Or maybe it's that you believe the "media truth" about Pits.
