I know a lot of people dont like giving pig ears to their dogs but I was just wondering if it's safe to give a small pig ear to my 12 week old puppy?

Pig's ears can have salmonella. While healthy adult dogs can handle it, I'm not sure I'd try it with a young puppy.

Processed pig ears you buy in pet stores can be dangerous because they can break off in sharp pieces. Raw pig ears straight off the pig are great chew toys. Salmonella is not a problem on either kind.

Boil the pig ear in a pot. It'll soften it and make it chewy.

Some dogs will try to 'inhale' the ear and choke on it. Ice had a tendency to do this (she's SO greedy with food), so I stopped giving her ears after having to pull pieces out of her mouth a few times.

Other dogs can handle them just fine tho, so it depends on the individual.
