So I already payed for it and we are starting it next week. I'm just wondering how many success stories there are from it.

our 6 month old puppy just graduated from her basic puppy class at petsmart. (with her diploma and all..:D. putting the pic up)

Being newbie puppy owners it helped us to get advice from the trainer and for the puppy to socialise with other puppies. she also learnt the basic commans of sit/stay/roll-over...but mainly we had to work really hard with her at home too along with the classes. so they are useful..but dont expect the work to be over for you.

Oh not at all. I'm expecting that they will teach me how to train him. I'm actually hoping to use nightly practice to help wear him out at the end of the night, lol.

I went through their puppy class with my first dog and he did really well. All of the training is, of course, in your hands. You learn how to do it there and then reinforce it at home. All of the trainers I have met have been wonderful. My dog is going to go through intermediate next month and then I want to put our new puppy through puppy class.

I just started my class and I'm really impressed. I hadn't yet after 4 weeks gained control of my puppy and the trainer got her under control in just 1.5 hours. I'm on my 2nd week and already got her sitting nice & letting me pet her while eating. Walking is going to take a bit but I got a good game plan.

I'm glad I signed up.

I teach the classes so I'm hardly unbiased, but please keep in mind each trainer is an individual. Honestly, I would never encourage someone to take a class from some of the trainers I know at PetSmart, but I am confident I do okay, and I have had lots of successful pet parents in just the short time I've been doing it.

My point is if you start it and you are not happy, please don't write off ALL PetSmart trainers - get your refund and go to another store, or if they have another trainer there try them first. Remember if you attend all the classes and are not happy, you get to retake it. If you do the first two and the trainer is a complete idiot, say you are not at ALL happy and get your $$ back.

Before I worked for PetSmart I took the puppy class and it's one of the reasons I am working there now. While you'll easily find people who say their PS trainer tried to alpha roll their dog, more and more the trainers are people who really LOVE this job and are constantly trying to learn and grow as trainers.

Best wishes!!

I just want to be sure that they'll be able to help me get a better handle on my puppy. Particularly getting him focus on me, getting him to better walk with me, and getting play biting under control (I can't even play with him sometimes because I can't find a method that helps that).

In my class the first thing I teach is Watch Me, and we go over biting in the 1st and 2nd. In week 2 we start Loose Leash Walking. I don't like the way the curriculum does some stuff but overall it's decent. It should help you.

Update: We had our first class last night and I must say I am incredibly encouraged already. I know this is going to teach me patience with him as well. Also, they gave us a clicker, which I think is the coolest invention ever. I'm looking forward to how the rest of this class turns out.

You could also finish a class in a store and go to another store and enroll in same class and actually learn different ways to do the same thing as each trainer might have their own strengths and weaknesses teaching the same things. You would have new dogs and people for your dog to meet.

The classes at least for puppy is $120. They say they'll start at 10 weeks. My vet wanted me to wait til her 14 week shots and gave her something for kennel cough in case other dogs may have it so mine wouldn't catch it.

I'm doing well so far so it's been worth the money. My JR puppy is a handful to say the least. Nothing like my first one.

Classes are $109 at my store, they should be the same everywhere. We start at 10 weeks, which by then your puppy should have had 1-2 rounds of shots. You can wait until he has all three if you want.

We loved the Petsmart classes. We did puppy classes and then the next level, as well. We met other dogs, other dog owners, had questions answered on a weekly basis, learned from other participants about how they managed similar issues... all-in-all, it was great.

It trained US as much as it trained our puppy!
