Can someone educate me about post-ictal phase?

My siste's pug is constant, inconsolable crying, howling, and barking after his seizure. Right now, we have my sister's pug in a quiet and dark place resting?

1.How long does post-ictal phase last and can it last fordays?
2.Does Rescue Remedy and/ or vanilla ice cream work?

Background:

*16 year old pug
*had seizure last week. the last time he had a seizure is when he was a puppy (15 year gap)
*other health issue arthritis
* is on anti -seizure drugs (Dec 2017\
* still eats his food once medicine wears off

TOO LATE

I posted this question late Dec 31st 2017 night- early Jan 1st 2018 morning

My sister Pug DIED Jan 2nd 2018 in his sleep early this morning California time. I guess his body couldn't handle the seizure and medication. I have nothing to say

Sorry for your loss! 16 is a ripe old age and I'm glad that your dog had a loving family in his life.

Most likely the reason why no one posted here (and I only just saw this now) is no one can give you definitive medical information, especially for something this serious, over the internet. I understand that this is not an option for every person, but a vet clinic or 24hr emergency vet clinic would have been the only responsible thing any person on this forum could have recommended.

Again, I'm so sorry for your loss!
