Your daughter is 5, she should know by now not to be too rough with a puppy. If Bobby was being too rough with a puppy at 5, he would be told to me more gentle. He does it again he wouldn't be able to sit for a week, he did it yet again he wouldn't be able to sit for the next 6 months. Bobby has been around animals since he was born. The only time he has ever been 'too rough' with animal was when he was 15 months old and accidentally tapped our arthritic OES in her sore hips with a toy fishing pole. My dad was with him and the dog I don't know why he didn't tell Bobby to stop. The dog responded with a grumble/ 'growl' that said 'that hurt, please don't do that again.' She then simply got up and went to go lay down on the a/c vent. As a baby Bobby knew to be gentle with animals(and he been around all shapes and sizes of dogs, cats and other animals, a 5 year old should be able to be gentle with an animal, I just don't get it.

You didn't think about needing time to train a dog before getting one? I would think with 4 kids in sports you would have thopught asbout the fact that a dog needs training, not to mention time with their 'people.'

Nice you have the dog for 7 weeks and you are dumping it already. The dog is 7 years old, the last thing it needs is to be dumped by a family again. You are starting an in-home daycare and that is why you need to get rid of the dog. Either the dog has serious issues or you are full of crap. Personally I think you are full of crap. Ypou also didn't save the dog from euthanasia, you KEEP the dog if you saved it, you don't decide to dump it on someone else.

What is it with almost everyone saying the animal needs more attention than they can give? Wonder if they would dump their human children for the same reason?

A dollar to make sure you are serious. Give me a break. I hope your 5 year old dog goes to a good home with responsible people and not to some freak who will mistreat him because they got him for a dollar.

So you go on craiglist to find a new home for a dog returned to you. Like there aren't a million better ways to find a home for an animal.

I wouldn't want a cat that 'has' to go outside because she 'demands' it. She'd have to learn she wasn't going outside if she was my cat. Maybe that is why you can't find her a home. I would think after being rescued on the streets near death you would use your head and not let her outside. Beautiful cat but I don't want a cat that goes outside. Can't have one that goes outside either, my ferals have FeLV and I'd rather not have another one die from it(5 since Nov.)

No, it wasn't too late. Ever heard of a spay/abort? I can't think of a vet that wouldn't try to fit a dog in for a spay in this situation. I got an appointment next day after Attitude went into heat unexpectedly early and I found Nuts on top of her. I flagged this one so hopefully it disappears.

What are some from your area? I really hate people at times.

Folks ... don't read craigslist ! :)
Agreed. Taryn, I probably also agree with everything you've said about responsibility and such.
But I don't see a point in making yourself upset at other people and their problems, unless you plan on helping some of those dogs/people.

Canyx>> agreed, lets all pledge not to look @ Craigslist anymore, I just take comfort that my present (& future) dogs won't have to go through that ... & Neither will yours :D

The 2nd ad really bothers me. They don't have time for the dog because they have 4 kids in sports? I have 3 kids in 2 sports each AND I homeschool them. I do EVERYTHING on my own because my husband works 6 days a week, 12 hrs a day. You know what? My kids are so involved with the caretaking of our THREE dogs that I am lucky if I even get 2 mins to hold one of them! These people are making excuses and it's sad because that is a beautiful dog!

I dunno, I just don't get it. I'm happy that my whole family is as dog crazy as I am! Our PVR is full of the dog whisperer, we homecook the dogs meals together...hah, we just came back from a family outing for ice cream at Dairy Queen WITH the dogs. Yes, we had to sit outside, but there's no other way for it to be!

Yeah, the 'I don't have time for the dog' really pees me off. If you don't have time for the dog then don't get one, period. I'm a single mom but I find time to walk Dexter because we don't have a fenced yard. Yes, I could use the tie out line(he is always supervised when on it) and let him do his business in the yard but it's easier to just walk him , even when the heat index or actual temp is literally 100+ degrees. I find time to feed, water and take care of the dog, the cat and the feral cats(2 or 3 at this time) as well. I also work to find time to take the ferals to St. Louis(about an hour drive each way) when we get a new dumpee(people dump their animals here making them my problem) that needs to be spayed or neutered. I'm also the leader of my son's cub scout den. I always get peeved when Petco asks for a donation for homeless animals, and they get mad when I say no. I have finally got to the point when I tell them I take care of feral cats and am currently trying to trap a mini-pin that was dumped here that won't let anyone near her, I'm sorry I use a lot more money trying to keep everyone fed and happy that were dumped here than a donation to them would help, I don't get paid to take care of other people's responsibilities.

I hope this wasn't a planned litter. Judging by the $30 rehoming fee(for nothing) I have a feeling this was.

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/pet/2509964047.html

This looks like an OES not a collie/ border collie mix.

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/pet/2510126075.html

Go outside with the dog when you let her out to go potty so she can't jump the fence. Also, spay her and she won't have as much of an incentive to hop the fence.

BYB, enough said, please help me flag this one.

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/pet/2510183220.html

I really do love this because it is so true, it seems like every other dog on CL is a pitbull puppy with nothing done and a way too high 're-homing' fee(including one that has everything done for it, including spay/neuter.)

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/pet/2510253139.html

Another possible BYB(even though there is only 1 puppy involved so I could be very wrong), but since they are getting the dog spayed and everything else before she is adopted I'm not going to flag them. They are being responsible by making sure no one can breed her and having her vaccinated and chipped. You however can flag away if you feel the need.

I'm going to be honest and say that I actually had crafted an ad for craigslist to place Brady up for adoption within the first few weeks of having him.

I was crying every night, exhausted, and I had way underestimated the amount of work he would be.

While I do think some craigslist ads are sad, I also kinda understand the people who have only had a dog for a couple of weeks...I don't CONDONE getting "rid" of a dog via craigslist, but "not having enough time to spend...." well, truthfully, people who are new to dogs DON'T understand how much time dogs require before getting them.

FTR - My craigslist ad went up for all of 15 seconds before I pulled it down. I couldn't let Brady go and never know what happened to him. Couldn't then, couldn't now.

I TRY not to look at ads anymore, because they just upset you and there's nothing you can do unless you're going to adopt them all, which I of course, cannot. But I will say this....in a lot of these "cases", while I may feel the urge to go up one side of the person and the other for being a tool, at the end of the day, a dog that is unwanted SHOULD be rehomed. I'd rather see a dog have a chance of finding a home where the people actually want them, and will raise them right, than see a dog stay in a home out of principal, because they don't want to be seen as dumping him/her...only to be miserable. Dogs know when they're not wanted. When they're an inconvenience. Only thrown some food twice a day and stuck outside on a chain or left to fend for themselves. So in that sense, I'm almost glad they ARE rehoming the dog. But yeah, it totally irks me to see just how many people in my area alone get a pup, only to sell it a few weeks or months down the road. The great dane ones REALLy bother me. I mean "I didn't realize how big he'd get?" really? You thought you were getting a toy breed?

I'm not even going to read the links. I avoid those ads because they make me too sad. I accidentally came across one while looking for a goat a while back. Someone wanted to trade 2 pit puppies for a smartphone. :(

@lisak - If you read the book, Marley&Me and liked it, then I think you might consider writing about your experience. I think Brady is very lucky and I know that lots of people would benefit from your experience, mistakes, lessons learned, patience .... and ultimate reward!
(But don't post it on Craig's list :)

I know some of the ads are terrible but I will always be grateful for Craigslist because we got both of our pups from there! One from an oops litter that they were just giving away and another from someone who had found an abandoned a puppy in their backyard. Best dogs I've ever had!!

They honestly referred to their dog as a 'breeder' and doesn't want him anymore because they got a biewer? Thats disgusting. What the heck is beiwer anyway?
A yorkie with white, from what I can tell.

...I want to groom that 'chorkie' more than I have ever wanted to groom an animal in my life.

I have 2 parrots and a box turtle thanks to my craigslist addiction...

I should be banned.
Bug came from Craigstlist. Her ad was at least reasonably decent though - I just wish it hadn't taken them so long to place it! Outside, small, deaf, dog running loose on a farm....

I must say I'm guilty of reading craiglist...as angering as it can be sometimes. But I found Sydney on Craiglist, she was free and I am so glad I took her home with me 4 years ago. Her owner had to get rid of her because her baby developed allergies. She was well taken care of though, and all that matters now is she is' in a wonderful home with me. :)

Thats probably one of the best reasons for rehoming a dog... (if its the real reason)
