I got an 8 year old Miniature Pinscher from a friend about 9 months ago, this is my first dog and before I got her, she was house trained and did not pee on the floor inside. Since I have owned her, she does does not ever pee on the floor while I am there, she will hold it as long as she can and if she really has to go, I got her a potty patch and she will use that. When I am not home though, she will always pee on the floor, even if I am only gone for a half hour. I am not sure how I can stop this since she only does it when Im not there and never does it when I am home. Everything I have seen on how to potty train dogs involves me being there when she does it. Other than this, she is a very good dog and does everything I want her to. Any help anyone could give me would be appreciated, I am at a loss for ideas.

She was paper trained before I got her, she would go in the house, but only on the blue puppy training pads. She also likes her kennel and is very used to it, she will go in there just to lay down sometimes, I just dont want to have to leave her in a small kennel for 8 hours or more while Im at work, that seems kind of mean. My whole apt has hardwood floors, so it isnt really difficult to clean up after her, but right now I keep her locked in the kitchen while I am not home so that I dont have to look all over the house to find where she peed. She never pees on anything, its always just the floor, and I didnt have to train her at all to use the potty patch, she just knew that I wanted her to pee there, she just also pees on the floor if Im not around.
