I would crate her when you're not there in a crate small enough to give her room enough to turn around and lie down, but no bigger. Most dogs like to keep their personal space clean and don't like to mess in it. If she's not used to a crate, make it appealing by feeding her in it with the door open at first. Give all treats in the crate, etc. Eventually close the door for short periods of time while she eats, until she's more used to it. When she has an accident, make sure you clean it with an enzyme cleaner, such as Nature's Miracle, so she won't keep going back to that spot. If it's carpet, soak the spot for a few minutes with the cleaner before blotting it up (pour some cleaner on the spot), to make sure it gets down to the padding, or even the sub floor. If it's a wood/laminate/linoleum/tile floor, I spray lightly, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then wipe dry.

Did your friend always have her potty outside? If so, she may be really confused b/c you're letting her potty inside on the Potty Patch. She may be confused as to why it's okay to go on that, but not anywhere else in the house. That's why I don't like paper training/pee pad training, etc. Just a thought.
