We just got the results to our dogs blood test. It turns out that her liver is really bad and the vet's office said that it's so beyond that there's nothing they can do and suggested to put her to sleep or if we wanted to take her to a specialist. I'm so lost in what to do. Is there still hope for her? I will feel so guilty if we put her to sleep and there's a chance for her to live. She is 17 years old and is a chihuahua and I heard little dogs live the longest. When we were i the vets office the other day the lady behind the desk said the oldest dog she seen was 23. I need advice from people who have been through this.

Has anyone heard of Milk Thistle? does this really work?

Thanks for the responses. Turns out my dog doesn't have a bad liver she has kidney failure:confused: I have taken my dog to a specialist and she read the blood work my vet did and didn't know why they told us it was a bad liver. Also, less than a year ago my dog had x rays done and my vet said she had an enlarged heart so he gave me 2 medications and said she needed this her whole life. The specialist did not know why the vet ordered this, she said it did not matter if she had an enlarged heart. The medication was only to be given if she suffered heart failure and told us this medication could have caused her to have kidney failure:eek: and when given the medication she needed to have routine checkups to see if it was affecting her kidney and heart (this was never done). My dog is staying over night at the hospital and she is going to take xrays, an ultrasound, check urine and put fluids in her. Hopefully she'll recover and her illness can be managed and I can be with her a few more years.
