Our westie went missing 5 months ago and she was just found. We got her back last night and she wouldn't eat. Still this morning and now dinner time she won't eat. Not even treats... She will drink water though. It's the same food we fed her before but still won't eat. I've seen other sites saying it could be stress but she was with us for 6 yrs prior to her missing. We will take her to the vet to get checked out but just concerned.... We have no idea what she has been through. She had pickys, dirty and had a homemade haircut someone gave her. So obviously someone had her at one point. If anyone has been through this I'd appreciate some advice. Thx!

Awwww !! I'm glad you got your baby back. How sad that she was missing for so long. Have you tried giving her something like little pieces of hot dogs or cheese? I bet she is just stressed big time.

I rescued a dog two months ago who was at least 5-8 years old and had been abandoned and running loose for three months trying to fend on its own. It was very ill. It took me at least 2 weeks to get that dog to eat a normal meal. The poor thing was stressed out to the max. I am sure your poor dog is too. Even though your dog knows you ... your dog probably feels the equivalent of a human being lost or kidnapped.

I wish you luck and hope the vet finds your dog still in good health .... poor thing. :(

one of my cats went missing for 6 weeks ( in the winter in Alaska ). He found his way home dirty, sick and skin and bones. He would not eat much at first and would vomit and have diarhea . It took nearly 6 months and several vet visits to get him looking like his old self again. I can just imagine what he went through out there, I dont exactly live in the city and I was sure an eagle or soemthing had gotten to him.
just keep trying and I am sure he will be ok now that he has his family back !!!

Thx everyone! I couldn't find a site with info about ur own missing pet and not eating. We gave her a meatball over her kibbles at dinner and she ate that and a little bit of kibbles. I'm thinking the kibbles maybe too small. It's the same brand and formula as before but noticed its for small breeds so it's tiny kibbles. We may try to go get the normal sized kibbles and mix it. I'm sure she is stressed too even though she's used to us but we have no idea what she's been through... :( She seems like her old self and still spunky but seems very tired....

We are lucky she had no fleas or ticks. And she isn't missing any hair. She was just dirty and bad haircut. Looks like she may have gotten some grease on her too. We will take her in the vet in a few days. It was a crazy 24 hrs! We never suspected to see her again! Thank god for microchips!

Has she lost a lot of weight? If not, then someone was feeding her and it's possible that while she was with whoever had her for part or all of the time she was gone, that she got used to a different food and just needs to re-acclimate.

She may have lost 2lbs. We can tell she's a little lighter than before. Someone definitely had her at some point with the homemade haircut. They took scissors and chopped her up... Had to fix this morning. I'm sure she got used to some other form of feeding. I'll talk to the vet as well and see. Thx everyone for taking the time and replying!

I just got some samples of food from a local pet store so we will try them and see.

She was found bc of her microchip. Some lady called her in bc she wouldn't leave her porch. The microchip company called us along with the animal shelter officer. Very lucky we had her microchipped! She is a terrier so she likes to try to run off. Reason why we microchipped her!

How is she doing over all today?

I thought I would mention maybe adding some boiled chicken breast to her kibble to interest her? ... unless she has allergies or you would rather not start a bad habit? :D

I have often done that when my dogs were under the weather.

When I rescued her back in 2005 she would only eat kibbles. And now she will just eat the merrick moist I put on top. I've just been putting 2 tablespoons. I didn't want to start her in the habit of people food. Especially since we are getting a westie puppy next month. We had a male westie that pasted in March that was my heart so we found a breeder to get another male. We are so happy to have our female westie back! It will be good company for both. My husband goes home at lunch and said she is good. Took her out and then she laid on the concrete patio.

So very Sorry for your loss .... I too lost my heart dog in March. I still have his Brother Blu Boy.

Glad your girl is doing well ... can understand the people food thing for sure! :) Be sure to post pics of your new pup when you get him. I met my first Westie IRL last Christmas ... a friends dog ... fell in love with him! His name is Axel.

I used to rescue them which made me fall more in love with them! They are great dogs! Where do u post pics? This is my first time on this site...
There is a dog picture forum here. I use photobucket to upload pics from my computer and then copy and paste them to here. There are instructions on the dog picture forum. :) Photobucket is free to sign up for if you do not already have it.
