This past Monday, we had to have our old GSP, Annie, put down. She was one month shy of 16 years old. Back in September we lost her sister (litter mate), Maggie. We had them since they were six weeks old. They traveled with us across country twice and then to Alaska where they spent the past 11 years. I just can't believe they are gone. Even though we have a young pup around, the house feels so empty...

Thanks for the comments, folks. It is meaningful coming from kindred spirits. Non dog lovers don't understand the connection we make and the bonds that we form with our canine companions. How I miss looking into those brown eyes...

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I almost went to tears watching the vid. Dogs are the closest thing to kids in my eyes. My wife and I dont have kids but the dogs are our children. *hugs to you and your family*

You are right when you say non dog lovers just don't get it. My SIL said some pretty insensitive stuff to my mom when she was trying to grieve. She lost her two dogs within months of each other just a couple of months ago, so I understand.
