I just bought my 5 month old cockapoo some salmon oil as a supplement to get him to be a little more enthusiastic about the kibble he's on right now (wellness super 5 mix for puppies). But I wonder if that's overdoing the omega-3 & 6 levels... or does it? I'm not exactly sure where the Wellness is getting the omega-3, from canola oils or fresh fish.. but I'd bet it's the former.

But if I were to switch him to a grain-free diet like Orijen, would that be overdoing it with the salmon oil since Orijen gets the Omega-3 from fresh fish. I heard that too much can make the blood thinner.

Anyway, thanks for any advice. I'm still new at all this.

It is the fish that has the Omega 3.

How about using 1/2 the amount recommended on the bottle? You can over do fish oil but I would being worrying about too much fat causing loose bowel movements before thinned blood.

Hope he likes the fish oil.

i agree with kathyy but is there something else you can also put over his kibble to keep him interested (tiny bits of meat juices or broth...) not much of the 2 i said (high in sodium) but it may help..

I wouldn't think you would need to add anything to orijen, but they company is great and very fast at respondign you can ask them!
