Just wondering how old is too old for a thread to be replied to? I just seen one shut down for being six months old  and the OP was still registered. This forum like most has a long list of rules, would it be possible to add one more with a specific thread cutoff time...?

Generally, if there hasn't been any new replies to a thread for 3 months or more we close them when they get revived. There are exceptions, like OP posting updates on a thread about their dog or some threads like the photo threads that are ancient. We miss some, of course, and we can't set threads to close automatically after a certain amount of time or change the "Recommended Reading" section.

If you see a thread that looks interesting but has been dead for months, just start your own thread about the topic or it will probably end up getting closed. I hope that helps.

I would think these are closed then the whole conversation that is closed should be removed completely to combat the confusion of replying to something that is older.

You can't reply to a closed thread, so there is no need to remove it. Some old threads do have good information, even if the participants are no longer active, so removing them also removes that information.

Exactly. Plus, we are 4 mods for a very large forum. We simply do not have the time to do something that labour intensive

Unfortunately, the mods have no control over the technical aspects (like the automated email alerts) of the site itself, let alone the third party apps it's compatible with. You can try reaching out to Tapatalk to alert them that you're receiving alerts from old posts, because that sounds like a bug on their end. Just to clarify, no one is punished for reviving old threads unless they're breaking other forum rules in doing so (like insulting someone, spamming, etc.), and we understand that it's easy to do by accident. Heck, I know I've done it in the past, and I bet the other mods have too! No harm, no foul, but we have to keep on top of them to keep the site easy to use and the focus on current questions/discussions.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
