 This just happened when I took Summer to pick up Josie.

I was there with Summer standing right next to me, munching on some grass. This little girl and her mom were a ways away. The girl was very excited to see Summer and asked if she could go pet her. The mom said very loudly, "No, Honey, that's a chihuahua. We don't like chihuahuas, they're not nice little dogs." Then she dragged her kid away.

LMAO, people are SO weird!

Oh your "chihuahuas" are really cute btw!
People are just ignorant, unfortunately most don't know what a Pap is and they could be mistaken for a Chi. Perhaps the person was bitten by a chi or had a bad experience with one.
A lot of people think all Chihuahuas are neurotic little monsters. It's a breed that needs a serious PR campaign!
I find that wrong just as a mom. Its our jobs to make sure that our kids are open minded. Wether it liking dogs even if we dont, or eating squash even though mom cant even stand the smell of it :p
Whether the person likes Chis or not, I find it INSANELY rude that they would say something like that within earshot of the dog's owner. I mean, if they were concerned about their kid petting a strange dog, wouldn't "No, not today, sweetie" suffice? I just can't believe how mean people are (not to mention, misinformed about dog breeds)
It's amazing how people don't think when it comes to their kids.

(PS: who wants to bet she would have spelled it chiwawa?)
Don't worry girl-

They're probably the same people who go to the zoo to stare at the lions, and then the mom says, "That's a tiger, honey! Aren't they pretty?" :D
LOL Oh Laurelin, I know all too well how you feel. You have the best looking Chihuahua's though. ;) :)

I agree; definitely the cutest Chihuahuas I've ever seen ;)

I guess it's better than the people who think they are little furry toys they can just scoop up and manhandle without asking permission...

...I guess...
we can take your 'chi' ...lol. Its a pap...i know and we can take my vicious..5 week old pit and probably no one will walk near us ... lol. Some people are so idiotic at times...to think that person is teaching their child to be an idiot with narrow minded thinking...not a very good way to teach a child.

So, I have the white fluffy dog who is ADORABLE. Unfortunately hates kids and big dogs. EVERYONE runs up and just pets her, lets their dogs charge her and no one thinks about it.

I take the 12 week old pit to the store for socialization, and no one will come close. This is the one that LIKES it, you morons. Come PET HER. I actually asked someone if I could introduce my dog to theirs and they said no. I saw them let the dog run up to another dog later and they thought it was such fun.

She hardly looks vicious.

my girl is only 5 weeks old and when they are petting her then ask what she is i say pit bull and they stop petting me and look like their hands going to fall off cause they pet a pit bull!!
I am one of those people who think most Chihuahuas are neurotic little monsters. I also think that most doxies and pomeranians are as well. Sure, I've met some real nice ones, but they are sadly few and far between. I wouldn't let my kid run up to one of those dogs and pet it. And I do not see that as teaching my child to be closed-minded, rather I'll be teaching them to be cautious around dogs. But i wouldn't tell my child that "we don't like that type of dog", especially in earshot of the owner.
How rude. You should have done the same right back at her; say to Summer, "No, don't run up and lick that girl's face - children are evil and she'll only pull your tail and shriek at you".
We just got back from PetSmart. We went to get some squeakers for Jonas, and brought him along. Some guy with a pit puppy, who was quite happy to see Jonas and romped with him in the line. The guy paid, then yanked his dog away, and said "My dog will kill yours."

uh.. what? I was so aggravated I just said "If that is true, then why the F- do you have it in the store?"

My mother likes to tell people "our cats can beat up your dog". She actually did this at my Petsmart two days ago, to someone with a Rottie. *facepalm*

Oh btw, just as a note..:)

Chihuahua, is not the former name of the breed.
It's actually Chihuahueño in spanish, adopted as Chihuahua by americans because it seems it's difficult for them to pronounce ''Ñ''

I would have confused a Pap with a longhaired Chi from across the sidewalk, have to admit that:p

Well Spain isn't the name of the country either, but in the English language that's how we say and spell it :p Chihuahua is at least much more accurate than chiwawa.

Does Chihuahueño mean anything? I want to think it must mean little something.

(I think you meant formal, not former)

That just makes me lol. This guy looked horrified our dogs were interacting. Or maybe he was trying to be tough? Yeah, way to look tough, of course your dog could kill mine. Jonas weighs 10 lbs and has a tiny little mouth.

I also think some people just can't help but insult every thing they can. It's like they lack a common sense filter and are just rude as if they can't help it or don't care about consequences. I don't know for sure, let me call up that hair stylist I never went to again after she said "Wiener dogs are disgusting. I would never even pet one, they're so ugly" in response to my saying "I have a miniature Dachshund."
