My pup is almost a year old and we are thinking of taking a vacation. We would be leaving our pup at a boarding kennel where we have have left her for daycare occasionally (she loves it). We are comfortable with this facility in all respects and like the owner and trust her. My question though is will our pup still love us if we leave her and do dogs understand time as we do? I know this is a silly question but this is my first puppy and I don't want to traumatize her!~ Thanks.

It depends on the dog. But if she goes there for daycare anyway she should be fine. She'll be happy to see you when you get back, don't worry about that!

If she is already familiar with the facility and staff and you are comfortable with it as well then I think she will be just fine. She will definitely still love you and will probably be overjoyed to see you when you return but I'm sure she will have a lot of fun while you are away as well.

she will be absolutely FINE, it is more stressful on us the adults than the dog. make sure you check out the place and get recommendations and try to get her to overnight there once before you leave for 11 days. she will absolutely remember you. I had a friend that had to leave her dog for 2 months and boy was it a happy reunion when they were able to be together again

Thanks everyone....especially you Rocky!!! I do think it is MY guilt feelings more than what my pup will do. She is pretty independent and not real clingy and the lady at the daycare/boarding facility is super good. And though I love her to death I do need to remind myself that I DO have a life and there will be times and places that she cannot go with me. Thanks for making me feel better about it.
