First time poster. Was very curious about what my dog did today.

Maggie is a female Laberdoodle. 7 months old and very intelegent. Has been house trained from day one with only one known issue of going to the bathroom in the house. We worked very hard with her from the minute she came home. She is even trained to go in one spot in the yard and for the past few months has not deviated. Today I heard her wine like she does to go out to the bathroom. On my way out I stopped at the bathroom next door to the mudroom to take a quick pee myself. While in the act I looked back and she was watching me and peeing all over the floor. My question is, have you ever heaIrd of this before? Do you think she felt it was ok since I was peeing in that location? Are dogs smart enough to associate this as an acceptible location since thats where I go?

Thougths?

Well ...... my newest rescue pup Eddee goes poo right in front of the commode? .... no where else :/ He has done this more than once.

Maybe it is because they can smell that it is near a toilet area? :) I wonder this myself.

Also ... he has peed in the basement bathroom as my Dad was using the commode too!

And don't worry we are potty training 101! Lol! :)

EDIT: Hello and welcome BTW!

No, I don't think she saw you pee and then thought that meant it was ok for her to do so. I don't believe a dog would be able or likely to generalize the two things as the same. I think she just whined to be go outside because you needed to, and because you waited she couldn't hold it any longer. I don't think the two events coincide except that you going to the bathroom yourself delayed taking her out in time.

My dogs have both watched me pee and never peed in response. Although kabota did stick his head between my legs to see where the noise was coming from . . .

I think she just couldn't wait anymore. When you gotta go, you gotta go.

My dog's had a few... They were right by the mouse cage which usually has a strong urine smell (day after I clean it, without fail!) and so I chalked it up to her smelling the pee there and thinking it was okay. /shrug
