We are it our wits end with him. He just gets so amped when people come around that it's caused some issues. Once someone is in the house he's their best friend but acts like such a nut when someone is coming to the house. Honestly I don't think he has a mean bone in his body nor the desire to hurt anyone but I don't think he knows how to channel his energy and it gets the best of him. I'm just trying to figure out what to do with him

Train the dog on proper greeting of people. It will take time, effort and patience of the visitor.

There are many training tips in books and in videos for this very situation.

Placing the dog in Quarantine every time a guest arrives will not foster good behavior from the dog.

When people come to your house the dog does NOT need to interact with them. I put my dogs up (kennels, crates, whatever).

So when someone comes to the door you say, "Wait a minute, let me put the dog up" then you go crate the dog or confine the dog to another room, return and let the guest in.

We seldom have guests at the house so we'll to have to invent ways to get people to the house.
We had quite a few issues that we were able to correct with retaliative ease, but people knocking at the door is going to be an uphill battle.

Enlist your friends to come over and practice knocking on the door and coming in with him to give you chances to train and practice. This would be my suggestion even if you did have company more often, because that's the wrong time to be training. You want to set up controlled, predictable training scenarios first.
