My puppies are adorable in a thousand ways, but one of them has a behavior that is especially endearing. If he wants to answer "yes" to a question, and we're face to face, he will bop me in the nose with his nose. It's the cutest thing ever.

It started when I trained them to ring the potty bell. (I use a kind that sits on the floor and looks like a "ring to summon someone to come help you" type bell, but with a larger area to suit puppy paws). Jackson rings it with his paw like I taught him... but Dabney always uses his nose to ring it.

It wasn't long after that he started bopping MY nose with his when I asked him if he needed to go potty. The expression he has on his face just before he bops, and the way he peers into my eyes right after to make sure I've understood, is priceless!

The other day, I was cuddling with him and said "I looooove you, Dabney!" He let out a little cry of happiness and nose-bopped me, then started kissing me and wagging his tail like crazy... his way of saying "I love you too" perhaps? :)

Anyone else's pup have an adorable quirky way of answering questions?

Awww, Dabney sounds adoreable!

All of my Poodles do the nose bop, and ever-so-gently when it's me, Luc, or the cat, they're bopping, not always so with each other! LOL They do it when they want me to go take a look at something, or when passing by, to get my attention, when they're pleased with something I've said or done, or just because! They each have their own style of nose-bopping, and I find the behavior so endearing.

No way!! It must be a Poodle thing then! Our older Standard has never done much nose-bopping (at least not as a routine communication tool!) the way Dabney does... he has bopped my leg with his nose a few times to get my attention, but the funniest to me is when he smashes his nose right into my nose... sometimes it hurts a little but it's so worth it for the cuteness of it!

Maybe I'll bop him in the nose one day to see what he says about it! :D

I think it IS a Poodle thing - when I picked up Lucia from her breeder, her 6 adult SPoodles all nose-bopped me in one way or another! Lucia is going on 7 months now, and quite the prankster . . . likes to get behind me, flip my nightie and give a little goose! Yikes! A couple of months ago, I called her my little Land Shark - she would buzz by me, then circle round and nip me in the butt! Put a stop to THAT, let me tell you! OUCH. When I'd screech, I swear she would look up at me, oh-so-innocent, batting her eyes the entire time! Ain't Poodles Grand! LOL

My fiancees parents own a standard poodle who does a similar bop. He normally just comes and sits very nicely right in front of you, and plops his big ol' paw right on your lap and just sits there. He does it ALL the time.

my poodle does a nose nudge thing. If he's being left out of something, like a couch snuggle, or something, he sticks his nose under our arms and shoves his head under there. when he was a puppy, he would also do the land shark thing. Zoom around the back yard and bop you in the butt. Also, his favourite thing in the world is when someone is standing, and he nestles his head in between their legs and asks for a full body scrubby.

Poodleholic, your pups sound as charmingly mischievous as mine are!! They would have a ball playing together!

Trumpetjock and Locke, that is so sweet!! The Golden Retrievers I've had would all do the head-under-the-hand-to-be-petted thing, and one of them always had to be holding hands with you at all times. So cute!

Earlier tonight, I felt a nose nudge on my leg and looked over and Jackson was smiling at me and wagged his tail, then trotted on to wherever he was going. "Just wanted to say hi, Mom!" :D I love how sweet and social and quirky and human they are!!

It wasn't so sweet and adorable when Dabney pulled my pajama bottoms off this morning!! :O Crazy prankster... he's so good about not nipping, but every once in a while he thinks it's funny to try to pull Mommy's pants off!!
