In Ohio there is proposed legislation that would remove "pit bull" from the definition of a vicious dog.
The law currently defines "vicious dog" in many ways, including:
(iii) Belongs to a breed that is commonly known as a pit bull dog. The ownership, keeping, or harboring of such a breed of dog shall be prima-facie evidence of the ownership, keeping, or harboring of a vicious dog.
The new bill (HB 79) would simply remove this passage. The law will still restrict actually dangerous dogs (like those with an actual bite history) but will not condemn "pit bulls" (what exactly does that mean...?) to that category at the moment of their birth.
I am excited. I think it is a step in the right direction.
