Hi! We have a papillion mix...possible border collie or sheltie mix as her other half... We got her from a family that was moving and couldn't take her with them. She was about 6-7 months when we got her and were told she would be a year old this past March 1st. She was basically ignored by the family who had her, at least that is what we can surmise from her behavior and lack of training. She was house broke and knew how to sit. She loves attention and to sit near or on you.
We have worked and worked with her but she has not been easy to train and has some behaviors we just can't understand and have problems with. First, the stars must be aligned, with no distracting noises or other people or animals outside with her or she will not go potty. She will hold her urine and feces for up to 18 hours. At one point I called the vet and they said if she hadn't urinated in 24 hours to bring her in. She also will act like her left back leg is hurting and need to be carried in especially in the cold. We had the vet check her out and he found no problems with her legs at all. She also absolutely will NOT stop eating bathroom garbage. We have tried everything we can think of short of a shocker collar. She acts like she has a chronic guilty conscience and hangs her head even when you are praising her or trying to pet/love on her. She is becoming skittish at the slightest sounds or actions. Saturday, for the first time since has been with us she ate my shoe. We try and make her comfy and cozy and loved on and relaxed and happy, but nothing is working. We have tried time out/kenneling as well. She is our only pet and we have no children, but can be quite busy at times. We are at our wit's end. Thank you!
