Hello everyone! My name is Jennifer and im 27 years old. I have a 1year old Husky/Rott Weiler names Odin. He is my world and I love him dearly...but I'm having some major issues. He is a fantastic dog and listens well AS LONG AS WE ARE INSIDE. As soon as we get outside its like he goes deaf and doesnt hear a word I say. Just last night my bf didnt close the door properly and he got outside. We live on a very busy street and there he is running around and im calling him and calling him but he just seems to think everything is a game. Then he sees another dog across the street and BAM takes off right across the busy road and almost gets hit by a car. Its terrifying to think something might happen to ky baby one day if I dont fix this issue. Plz help!!

Welcome to DF .

The issue with recall and general obedience in most cases can easily be resolved at 1 year old if you have some time to put into this effort on a regular daily basis. For example , your dog needs exercise everyday , so , you can use this time for bonding and conditioning your dog to receive training from you. Does your daily schedule allow for the time for some training walks and exercise?

Yes. I go back to school in the beginning of July but as of right now im not working. I walk Odin every day... Probably about 4 times a day because we do not have a backyard. I take him over to the field and let him run loosr because its the only time he can get any actual running exercise. I know with a large dog we really need to look into getting a place with a yard but we just cant afford to move right now. So, what can I do? Im ready and willing to do it all!!!

Start by making your walks fun and productive. There is a sticky in the Dog Training Forum section that will help you get started.
Here is link: http://www.dogforums.com/dog-training-forum/6856-nilif-nothing-life-free.html

Basic obedience will help in large part condition your dog to listen to you and will serve as a bonding tool. I'm guessing you crate your dog at night , so , start right at the crate with your training. Have your dog sit calmly and then put on collar for outside potty walk. When on your walks use this time to use little treats and teach sit , down and stay. Be very patient and consistent and your dog will condition to listening to you and bond... Now take a look at the "nilif " link and get started and make it fun...

Next... Start and new thread about what you are doing and what you wish to accomplish in the Dog Training Forum section and you will get a lot of help from other forum members..

Good Luck , oldhounddog
