Ok, it's actually my first puppy ever, but I live with my girlfriend, who's extremely experienced with pup & dog-raising. In late August '09, we're moving to a new house in the midwest, and we pick our puppy up from the breeder a few days after we get there. I'm super excited to learn so much - both at home and here at the forum!

Yours,
'pua

Welcome and that's cool that you're getting a Shiba Inu. They're great little dogs; I know what you mean by first time owner as I am one too. It is great to learn all about the breed! Good luck with yours and what are you and your girlfriend naming the puppy?

Thanks for the reply, Spirit_of_Cotons. We haven't firmly decided on a name yet, but I'll update this thread when we do. We've only spent an hour with the pup, which was 2 weeks old at the time of our meeting. The breeder is holding on to him until he's 8 weeks old, which seems to be a fairly standard time.

Welcome to the forum. You should post pictures as soon as you get some. Shiba's are super adorable... it was one of my top breed choices but I decided to go with a toy breed instead.

Welcome to our forums! Shibas are gorgeous dogs and lots of fun, but they can also be quite a handful. Can't wait to see pictures of your new puppy!

Hi there! I'm new here myself... as well as a fellow New Yorker! Your pup sounds like he will be adorable... a new home definitely doesn't seem to be "home" until it has a pet in my opinion!!

Can't wait to see your new addition!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I have some pictures of the pup at 2 weeks old (taken when we met the breeder to place a deposit & visit the pups). I'll post those a little later :D

Well definitely share those if you have a spare moment to post them. :)

Ah, so you're not too close, not too far... if you're like us, this is the first sunny day you've had in a while! I'm very glad I have no more wet doggie paws trailing through my house...

That's an adorable doggy! I think my dog, Noel, is part Shiba Inu. I do know that when they are hunting, or focused, they are really locked on whatever it is they are hunting/are focused on.

Hmm I think I'll train my Shiba to be a full-on ninja
