Implimint N.I.L.I.F It's a sticky in the training thread.

The concept is basically the dog does something before it gets what it wants.

He wants dinner, you make them sit, then give them dinner.
He wants petting, you make him sit/lay down, something.
He wants to go for a walk, you make him sit before putting on the leash, sit before walking out the door.
Etc....

This will help you guys bond, while showing your dog that he can look to your for guidance, and will also help with good manners.

Teach some basic commands, sit, stay, down, come.

The training forum sticky's will help you with all of this, just read through those and they will help you.

Have fun running, that mix will make a perfect running partner.

How old is the dog?

If it is a puppy I recommend starting out in Puppy Classes as soon as the dog is eligible age-wise. If not, get into a few beginner obedience classes so the dog is actually ENJOYABLE to run with on leash.

I have a new puppy (lab)... got her when she was 6 weeks old ... she (Nika) is almost 8 weeks now .... i read up on 'clicker training' on the internet and watched videos on youtube on how to do it, and started it with her 1 week ago and she is learning fast!!! 10 years ago when i got my lab/collie mix, i took him to puppy training school at 4 months old and he failed big time!!! but when i trained him myself he did so much better!!! Labs and husky's are very intellegent dogs ~ she should learn quick .... good luck!!!

Huskies love to run...run...run...and keep on running..

they are not to be trusted off - leash --- be very careful, even the most devoted Husky will take off....
