New Cane Corso Mom!

Hello I'm looking for feedback and advise on raising a Cane Corso Pup. I have experience with large dogs, I have owned German Shepherds my entire life. I've done obedience training, nose work, agility (I even did some lure coursing with my friend's Rhodesian Ridgebacks). I of course did all these classes and training as a pet owner with the purpose of training and bonding with my dogs. All that said I am now adapting to raising a 4 month old male CC and he is just such a sweet laid back boy that we have had since he was 10 weeks old. We did our research for a couple years on on CC breed and I have even met a couple through classes and pet events over the years. He is much different them my GSD and I knew that but I'm having some challenges when it comes to knowing the difference between his stubbornness and puppiness lol. He is doing very well with potty training and crate training, however at night he is awake a lot and I have determined it isn't because he has to go potty I believe it is because he's just up and wants to be with us. He slept through the night better a month ago, I feel he is more attached to us now and this may be why he is acting like this now. The other challenge is going potty outside when its raining, OMG he wants to go the deck and we physically have to force him to go in the yard I'm hoping in time this will improve with age and maturity. These are not major issues I am just asking for advised from Corso owners out there who know the breed and their ways more then I know them since I am knew to the breed. Any advise on how to handle him would be greatly appreciated. I know they are a sensitive but dominate breed and these younger months/years are very important for molding him and our relationship. I have also asked advise from his breeder and my trainer as well.

He's adorable :)

Get in as much training and socialization as you can in these next few months! By socialization I mean everything from meeting new people and dogs, to just having new experiences. Have him walk on different surfaces, drink/eat from different dishes and in different places, take him in the car, get him crate trained, etc.

Be very consistent in your training and use only positive reinforcement. Use the NILIF principle.

Consistency is huge. Don't let him "get away" with something you normally don't allow because he will remember that ONE time for the rest of his life, haha!
Thank you Jen2010! We take Colt everywhere we possibly can, we bring him to visit the vet every week or 2 (in addition to his scheduled puppy check ups) just so he can say hi to all the staff and get a treat too! We take him into Lowes and petsmart once a week and walk him at parks and in our neighborhood. He goes on car rides all the time too! He's crate trained as well, its just during the night, often he's up 2-3 times and that I hope will just improve with age, he's only 4 months old. I just need to adjust and understand his stubbornness lol He is truly a great puppy with a very laid back personality (so far lol)

Kane and Pepper are so adorable as well!

Thank you so much again!

A male Corso will be more emotionally attached than a female ( in general). To help with his sleep issues take him out for a walk to tire him out close to bed time... TRAINING is a Must... Continued trying is a Must. A Corso in general will be much larger than a GSD. A Corso will try and be YOUR Pack leader if you allow it. Once they realize who is the Pack Leader they will literally love you to death.... in my opinion Corsos are the Best breed going. I have a 21 month old male and a 6 month old female. I hot them both at 8 weeks old. My wife thinks I am obsessed with them...lol
My girl Xena likes to sleep in the bed with us if my boy Magic isn't in the bed... if he is she goes to her cage.. Magic always wants to lay on us as a comfort for him....they are constantly wrestling... extremely protective of my family. Very obedient, and protecting trained. They love training... BEST BREED EVER !!
