You know, I kind of have the same problem. My neighbors are wonderful people and great owners. They're the third or fourth owners of a terrier mix that doesn't ever stop barking. I truly admire them for that, I do. So I felt bad every time I'd go to work in the garden and set him off, thus forcing them indoors. And I spent a lot of time in the garden, it's a time consuming hobby.
Then I realized something: this is an opportunity to train. So I asked them if I could give their dog chicken to train him to like me. They thought it an odd request, but okay. So now the dog runs up, barks until he sees it's me and then goes away.
I don't know if that could work for you in some way, using this as an opportunity to encourage training, but remember, you do have as much right to be outside as they do. You should definitely be polite about it, but you shouldn't curtail your time in your own yard, either.
