Need some advice

Hey! My name is Deb Wilson. I'm new to dogforums.com. I could use some advice. We've had two dachshunds for about six years - a male - 9 years old, and a female - 7 years old. They have been inseparable - together 24/7. The little female was hit by a car this past weekend - and died. I'm really concerned about our male. He stays in their bed (won't come out unless we get him out ourselves), isn't eating (which is really unusual for him!), and appears very depressed. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we might help him? Thanks !

I lost my older dog a couple of months ago and my other one would not eat right for almost two weeks. The vet said 2-3 weeks is a typical adjustment period. Just keep feeding high quality, tempting food and keep the activity level as much like normal as possible. Do keep an eye on him though. I know of other dogs who really got into a serious funk over a loss of a longstanding buddy.

P.S. Sorry for your loss. It is a terrible thing, I know.
