Hello, I have a 5 month old Australian Shepherd and am having issues with her crate training at night. About a month ago she was sleeping fully thru the night on her own without asking to go out. She will bark if she needs to go out. But one night she peed in her kennel without asking to go out and now she won’t stop peeing in her kennel. I took a step back in her training and was letting her out in the middle of the night and slowly weaned her off of it. Now she will sleep almost all the way thru the night and ask to go out about an hour or so before my alarm is set to go off. However, probably about 3-4 times a month she will cry at 2am after having been in her kennel for 3 hours and when I get her to let her out, she has peed in her kennel. I’m not sure what to do because it is incredibly frustrating having to give her a bath all the time. One week she did this three times in a row and had to have a bath every night. She is pretty much house trained and she doesn’t have any medical issues. How do I correct this behavior?

Checking to make sure she doesn't have a UTI would be a good idea.

I thought about that, too. But she doesn’t have any other symptoms of a UTI. And it isn’t all the time that she does it. I would definitely suspect if she did it all the time, but it’s only like 2-4 times a month that she does it and it’s always at night. She doesn’t have any issues at all during the day. This is the first time she’s done it this month. Last month she did it three times. Aside from the three times in a row she did it, it’s always randomly spread out in the month. Also the three times she did it in a row could have been because I had taken her to the vet for being sick and it ended up being that she ate a piece of the bedding that was in her crate. So now when she pees in her crate it’s 10 times worse because the vet told me not to put anything in her crate.
