I have not tried to clip my poms nails until now, since I've only had him 2 weeks. So I tried today and he snaps at me - I tried the pedi paws, but he dosen't like his paws touched much anyway.
So I don't know what to do, he is a very sweet dog, he just does not like his paws fooled with.
Should I muzzle him? I really would rather not, cause I would think this would make him more afraid to have his paws touched at any time, right?
So I don't know which way to go with this...PLEASE HELP!
Thanks!

You have to teach your pup that getting his nails clipped is a GOOD THING..

Start by rewarding him for letting you touch/handle his paws... work up to letting him sniff and smell the pedipaws, and giving him treats when he does so, so he learns that it's a good thing..

then turn on the machine, and more treats... another time, try doing one nail, and treat treat treat.. work your way up. It will be a slow process.

I agree w/x3ro.

I found a 2 yr old (vet guessed at age) GSD mix that wasn't good about having her paws touched. I would have her sit then tell her "paw", and pick up her leg and then praise and treat. Also would run my hands over her legs and paws when grooming, rubbing/massaging her. Then I started holding a paw and saying "touch", and touching the nail clippers to one nail, then praise and treat. Gradually built up to clipping one nail (saying "touch" then clip, praise and treat). Now I can easily do all of her nails.

I got super lucky. Took my pup to the vet last night for his last round of puppy shots, and we had the vet show us how to trim his nails as well. He didn't mind a bit! Sat still, and let us go at it! We'll be trying the dremel next time!
