She is such a sweet heart. Her name is Clarice, but I call her Rees. She is 3 years old, house broken for the most part. She's on prednisone for allerg ies, so she pees ALOT!! I'll post pics of her tonight when the hubby gets home from work. She was bred so much that her nipples already hang to the ground almost.

On with my question. The rescue org had her for 5 days to "quarantine" her and get her physical and what not. They hand-fed her because she would not eat for them. Is there a way to get her to eat on her own? She is now on excellant food and gets alittle moist food mixed in.

Thanks for the help and I'm sure I'll have more rescue questions as the day progresses.

Is she eating from your hand?

If so, maybe you could still feed her from your hand, but put your hand in a bowl while feeding her and then gradually decrease the amount of food that's in your hand versus the amount of food in the bowl?

That's what I did with my dog when I first got him. He was scared to eat so I hand fed him for awhile and then did what I said above and that worked for us.

That's a great idea. I'll try that!

I dogsat this one dog who's owners could not get him to eat of out his bowl. Turned out he got scared when his tags would clink against the metal bowl.
Not saying that is the case with your foster, but perhaps you could try feeding her in different kinds of bowls like plastic or something more shallow like a plate and see if that helps.

Well, she finally ate. I'm so glad. But now our new issue is she really resource guards her toys and me. If she is around me at all, she growl and bites my other dogs. So, now this is the new issue I have to help her through. When she does this around me, I stand up and walk away. I don't want my dogs to have to go through that.

Well, she's doing alot better. She doesn't growl or anything when I pet the other dogs with her around. She eats without prompting. I think she was just a bit scared. I found out she just had puppies 4 months ago. So I think that taking away her puppies then taking her away from her home just made her edgy. But she's adjusting great now. I just have to work on going up the stairs and her food aggression. But, she's seems like a fast learner.

LeRoy she is really a cutie face. I love her ears. :)
Glad to hear she is improving. Sometimes it just takes time for them to find their place in a new home.

Well, she has a new home, but I have to keep her for a few days after her spay. She will be going to her new home late next week if all goes well. She goes for her spay on friday. I'm going to miss her, but hopefully I'll get another soon.

Talk about fast! LOL! I'm glad she's found her home. And I look forward to hearing about your next foster dog.
Yeah- there is a long waiting list for these dogs. They don't stay in foster long.

Well, I get to go to chicago tomorrow to pick her up from the vets. It's been quiet around here without her. She will be missed when she leaves for good.
