The other night my dog was sleeping next to me and she got up to smell the bed. I saw she had gone to the bathroom. It was time for her to be taken out - but she always lets me know by staring at me. I waited because she was sleeping.

Is this normal??? im now very nervous that she may do this again.

THANKS

Sounds like some kind of incontinence, which can be caused by spaying, female hormones, an infection, or just unknown causes. Keep an eye on her, and, if it keeps happening, ask your vet about treatments.

OK - don't laugh but we used a product called "Leaks No More" sold by Natural Canine of Vermont (www.naturalcanine.com). It worked really well! Our female sheltie (spayed) is 12 and we've had this problem off and on for about 5 years. She pees when sleeping, just like wetting the bed! It's quite common in older spayed females. There are hormones that your vet can give you if it becomes truly cronic, but they're not without side effects. I'm telling you - Leaks No More (don't you just love the name?!) worked well for Sadie. Good luck!
