a little more information would be nice if you want a good answer.
does he only lick walls, does he lick himself with the same obsessive behavior?

what is the breed? how much exercise does he get?

if you want a good answer you have to ask a good question.

Is your dog stressed about something?
Are you in a new environment?
Did someone new just move in?
Does he lick the couch or other inanimate things?
Did you just get another pet?
A divorce in the family?
Anything that might cause stress?
Have you changed his food recently?
Have you tried spraying bitter apple or vinegar on the walls?
Does he have toys to play with?
Interactive toys?
Are you obedience training him?
What kind of training method do you use?

Skip the shouting. There are lots of possibilities but, the one I'd be concerned about is an allergy. The tongue can itch like crazy especially with a food allergy.
