My dog has ring-like scabs on his stomach that look like a ringworm infection

Recently I noticed my dog Skye has circular scabs that look identical to ringworm infection. My parents say it's nothing but him just scratching himself too hard - but with the imagery I'm seeing on the internet, I find this hard to believe.

Does this need to be treated?
